"Promise" by Steve Schneider
Promise, December, 1933 is a song based on a poem by my wife's aunt, Georgiana, that I set to music. I wrote it for my wife for our 20th anniversary.

"Apopo" by Steve Schneider
Переглядів 1,2 тис.8 років тому
Apopo is a charitable organization that trains giant pouched rats to sniff out landmines after they learn to recognize TNT. The very cute (and brave) rats are too light to trip mines, so they aren't hurt or killed in the process. A recently article described Apopo removing a mine found 20 meters from a school in Angola. Check them out at: apopo.org. On this piece Steve is using some double head...

Precioso de verdad. Me he quedado hipnotizado con las melodía. ¿Qué no es bueno?. Es mágico. Enhorabuena y gracias
Valuable information! I'm arranging a friend's melody for Appalachian ensemble - this video is tops.
Wow
Great instrument!
Nice sounds! 2 Weeks ago started with a Tenor Psaltery in Germany.
I like the sound of the dampers!
Wanting an electric hammer dulcimer mainly to play with headphones. Is this possible?
A version w/ Chord accompaniment strings, & other options like Chromatic Versions, Double Octave Strung, etc. Pickups would help w/ recording.
1:16 The Song cards go underneath the strings & you strum the strings over the line of dots from left to right, & it's a very old idea that's based on other kinds of Zithers which included them, like the Hawaiian Tiple, Orchestrola Zither, & many other types of Zithers too. So w/ that in mind let's hear the instrument in action, this song is Ah vous dirai-je, Maman (K. 265) by W.A. Mozart which people know as Twinkle Twinkle, Baa Baa Black Sheep, & ABC's on the other side of the pond. It's also a Christmas Carol called Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann or in English Santa Clause is Coming Tomorrow. You could also play the instrument like a hammered Dulcimer by hitting the strings w/ Mallets.
We orchestra people call those short strokes staccato
My kindred instument
Very nice way to explain the details of the instrument...U played it well too.thanks
Beautiful
This instrument is also known as a plucked psaltery or 'lap harp'
Psaltery was used thousands of years ago. Biblical writings reveals it.
I built and play a 15 string hog nose psaltery (only one bridge) Something I have never see on these tutorials is the way to play all the sharps and flats of the chromatic scale. I 'ruined' a 3/8 inch cold chisel by rounding and polishing the edge. Now I can touch it to any string 1/17th of the vibrating length from the bridge and get the half steps. This is the easiest string instrument to play for obvious reasons, but it is not at all limited to the diatonic scale or any other basic tuning. You can also use the screwdriver blade on your Swiss army knife... You do have a Swiss army knife don't you? Lol! .
You need to make your own UA-cam video showing how you do that.
Cool. Kindof like a ukelin.
Awesome 👏
I want a zither, please. My Country Is México.

Awesome and interestingly beautiful.
Hello everybody Just trying to understand tuning of this instrument to practice at home thank you
Sir, where did nitinji made his santoor
Per cortesia conosco solo l,italiano
Hello sir..do you have this instrument for sale?
I don’t know about the bowed part, but the psaltery is mentioned in Psalms 57:8 so it’s MUCH older then what this guy says.
I'd Love to play some old Civil War tunes on that. Beautiful instrument.
Please send it to me in hindi
I changed my strings and play it like a dulcimer
Really nice bowing technique. Smooth & sweet instead of the more common "raspy" & "scrapey."
Great video! Please could you make one teaching how to tune it? It will be very very nice.
I suggest you check out my blog post on the subject. www.jamesjonesinstruments.com/blog/building-a-16-15-indian-santoor
@@jpjonesmi , second the request for a video showing how to tune an Indian santoor! The perfecthird website links on your site are broken or the website is not longer available. And while your tuning diagram is the most helpful thing I've found on the web so far, a demo video would be even better!
Raag Madhuvati
The original santur is Iranian the Indians took our santur and make something like it but the real one is in Iran
The sound seems eerie to me.
Very nice sir ji
He's been into the doobage!
Where can I get one ?
Can this be played on a table top?
It can be aligned to one edge of a table but that would mean you would only be able to play one side. If you need it self supported, I sell a platform which can be attached to a camera tripod. You would set the psaltery on the platform, raise it to the preferred height and then play normally. You would then have access to both sides of the psaltery.
Wow. You're very clever. Saving this video. I think I want one. Is the one you are playing tenor or alto? Sounds like alto?
Yes. My alto is by far my most popular. You can get more information here. www.jamesjonesinstruments.com/bowed-psalteries I have some in current stock for immediate purchase.
So lovely. Your dulcimer playing touches my heart.
Love it! I found one that’s in good shape at a second hand shop and purchased it. Beautiful sound.
I'm a huge Botanist fan, and this instrument sounds absolutely massive live. It's so interesting to hear the science behind it! :)
#Rayito2 iPhone X 😎😍🤗😁😄
I admit to one cheat that I use if I'm playing a set of faster tunes in the same key. I tune the right hand side to the appropriate scale and tune the opposite note to replace the natural one. So for G Major (E minor) the F's go up to F# and the F#'s on the other side go down to F. After a while you get really quick at making the adjustment between numbers.
